Cheza’s bail ruling postponed

Story by Tafara Chikumira

THE bail ruling for the Citizens Coalition for Change(CCC) losing candidate for Chirumanzu Constituency, Patrick Cheza and four CCC activists who are facing charges of assault has been deferred to Tuesday next week.

Cheza was arrested on allegations of assault after allegedly assaulting ZANU PF National Assembly member-elect for Chirumanzu Constituency Barbra Rwodzi on August 24.

Cheza and his co-accused allegedly assaulted Rwodzi after her son George Chengetai was involved in an accident with the losing candidate.

The accident allegedly occurred in Gonawapotera area of Chirumanzu.
The court heard that after the accident, George Rwodzi called his mother, who went to the scene where she also met Cheza who was in the company of some CCC activists.

An argument ensued resulting in Rwodzi being assaulted.

Cheza and his co-accused will remain in custody until Tuesday next week when the magistrate is expected to rule on the bail application.
