Zimbabwe, Zambia trade meeting ends

Story by Stanley James

The fourth session of the Zimbabwe – Zambia Joint Trade and Customs Committee (JTCC) ended this Thursday with the need to boost existing trade ties top of the agenda.

Zimbabwe and Zambia have resolved to implement bilateral trade agreements to facilitate socio-economic development.

Zambia’s Deputy Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Ms Nabulanga Natasha said “It is imperative for the two economies to focus on fulfilling the agreed tenets while ensuring that the gains achieved so far are consolidated as we seek to further enhance trade and economic ties”

Zimbabwe has also reaffirmed its commitment to fulfil the tenets of the trade development roadmap.

“Further to the existing ties, it is imperative to note that some few agreements were also signed in light with the need to broaden the scope of economic cooperation while fostering growth of the economies. It is our hope that this platform opened an opportunity to scale up cooperation,” said Zimbabwe’s head of delegation, Ambassador Rofina Chikava.

The JTCC also focused on modalities to remove trade barriers while easing customs duty on essential commodities to boost food security.
