Zim eyes diamond investors

Story by Stanley James, Business Editor

ZIMBABWE plans to use the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) intercessional meeting in May as a platform to attract global investors in the diamond mining industry.

Zimbabwe, which is the chair of the KPCS, will in May this year host the scheme’s intercessional sessions in Victoria Falls at a time the local diamond mining sector is in need of strategic partners to ramp up production.

For government, the meeting provides an opportunity to further engagements with global investors in the diamond mining value chains.

Mines and Mining Development Deputy Minister Honourable Polite Kambamura noted, ‘‘Preparations are on course to ensure that the meetings are a success basically the key thrust is to ensure that the economy benefits but basically it us all about attracting more investments.’’

Several players in the global mining industry will be attending the intercessional meetings whose focus is entirely on the review of the state of diamond mining systems.

Zimbabwe received global show of confidence after being offered the one term chairmanship of the global diamond regulatory institution.
