Story by Stanley James, Business Editor

THE government is impressed by the adoption of the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) amid revelations that most business units have embraced the new currency.

The Minister of Industry and Commerce Honourable Mangaliso Ndlovu this Wednesday toured the National Foods Holdings Limited plant in Harare to assess production capacities and operations.

After the tour, the Minister appreciated the commitment of the agro-processing firm to economic growth and how local industry has embraced the new ZiG currency.

“From what I have seen, there is that great scope for growth in fact, all the plants are operating well however, I would like to appreciate the country’s business value chains for accepting the Zimbabwe Gold as a medium of exchange.”

The company’s chief executive officer, Mr Mike Lasbrook revealed a commitment to using the new currency.

“We remain committed to growth and as the private sector, it is our responsibility to further scale up our production systems for the benefit of the nation.”

The local business community has taken the lead in accepting the ZiG in transactions as monetary authorities seek lasting solutions to preserve the value of the local currency.
