Government pledges to assist in growing SMEs

THE best performing business tycoons and pacesetters across different value chains have been celebrated and rewarded for their contribution to the national development agenda as the government pledges continued support to emerging businesses.

Those recognised for their prowess in business and leadership positions are indebted to the government for consistency in promoting entrepreneurship while acknowledging the importance of recognising excellence.

“It’s an honour to be recognised for hard work but most importantly we acknowledge what the government has been doing to support businesses. They have been consistent and have shown determination to empower those in business, especially women,” said Ebenezer Properties chief executive officer (CEO) Mrs Rumbidzayi Dihwa.

Mother Touch Group of Schools CEO, Mrs Salome Mutsinze “It has been a long journey and it’s exciting to be recognised. I just want to say women should know that it can be done, and they should not hesitate to try.”

“Disability does not mean inability as long as one has determination, they can do it. We just want more to be done to help people with disabilities to start businesses,” said teacher, Ms Nancy Mwakutireni.

The government took the opportunity to assure the business community that it will continue to come up with strategies and policies that promote the growth of small businesses.

Deputy Director of Business Skills Development in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Mr Mamvura Mabika said, “Government recognises the importance of fostering an environment that nurtures entrepreneurship. We are committed to creating conducive ecosystems that encourage innovation, provide access to capital and support the growth of small to medium enterprises which are playing a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of the country.”

The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation Chief Executive Officer, Ms Adelaide Chikunguru was among business leaders who were honoured with the Iconic Leader of the Year 2023 Award.
