Future of Growth Report commends Zim innovation systems

Story by Stanley James

THE latest Future of Growth Report reveals that innovations are driving Zimbabwe’s thrust to improve competitiveness and attract local as well as external projects.

Findings from the Future of Growth Report commissioned by the World Economic Forum, show that four key pillars were assessed on the competitiveness of over 100 countries.

The report that was made to the public this week shows that the pillars include innovation, business inclusion, environmental sustainability and systematic resilience.

It states that along the four pillars, Zimbabwe made strides in innovations.

The innovation scores improved from 27,2 to 29,7.

Furthermore, under the sustainability pillar, Zimbabwe’s average score of 56,21 is above SADC and global average scores of 49,48 and 49,83.

As the world is focusing on policies that reduce carbon emissions to guard against global warming, the report states that more still needs to be done by local industries to reduce carbon footprints.

Zimbabwe’s national blueprint, the National Development Strategy One, underscores the need for improved competitiveness.

The report was also compiled through technical assistance from the National Competition Commission in terms of industry and commerce surveys across the country.
