THE people of Binga have welcomed the move by the government to operationalise the Binga Border Post which has enhanced cross border trade with Zambia.

Prior to the operationalisation of the Binga Border Post, the local community used to travel over 300kilometres to the Victoria Falls Border Post to cross into Zambia, while others would do so illegally through dangerous crossing points in the mighty Zambezi River.

That is all in the past with the border now fully functional, much to the delight of the local community.

“The border has helped us a lot, we are now able to cross into Zambia legally to do business, we are no longer running away from the officials,” said a community member.

The Immigration Department has since revealed plans to expand the border post.

“The border post is now elevated to national status and plans are in place to upgrade infrastructure so that the border has the capacity to accommodate relevant stakeholders, Public Works has been or the ground for feasibility assessments of the work to be done to commence construction of permanent structures,” said Binga Border Post, Principal Immigration Officer, Mr Isheanesu Murandu.

The operationalisation of the Binga Border Post is in line with government’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind in the development matrix.
