Destination Zimbabwe continues attract international airlines, with South African based airline, Airlink launching three times a week flights between Victoria Falls and Mbombela (Nelspruit) in South Africa.
In a statement, Airlink noted that the new service to Victoria Falls expands direct connections between Southern Africa’s prime tourist attractions including the Kruger National Park and Victoria Falls as well as Cape Town in South Africa.
The new route provides travellers with alternative itineraries using direct flights and without having to connect via Johannesburg.
The move by the airline is a direct response to efforts by government and other stakeholders to expand air connectivity through refurbishment and expansion of the country’s major airports including Victoria Falls and Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airports.
Experts also contend that the latest development will also expedite the recovery of the tourism sector as well as catapult Zimbabwe’s tourism sector to a US$5 billion industry.
