TV BRICS presents the experience of cooperation with Brazilian radio broadcasters at the international festival ‘Radio Without Borders’

The VII international festival “Radio Without Borders” takes place in Tula on 26-27 September. This is a creative event held to exchange experience and discuss topical professional issues by representatives of leading radio companies in Russia and foreign countries.

The guests and participants will be presented presentations of the most successful projects; the event will also include round tables and master classes moderated by Academicians of the Russian Academy of Radio (RAR) and heads of major radio stations from Russia and foreign countries.

Daria Ivankova, Director of the International Cooperation Department of TV BRICS, spoke at the session “New Directions for Promoting Russian Language and Culture in the BRICS Countries”. She spoke about TV BRICS’ cooperation with media partners of the BRICS countries and shared the experience of the media network’s cooperation with ‘Orpheus’ Radio and Brazilian radio broadcasters.

“In our work we have always focused on promoting humanitarian and cultural cooperation. We supported cultural initiatives. TV BRICS, is a platform that facilitates multilateral exchange of content in TV, film and radio formats,” said Ivankova.

“From the partners’ side we see a very large number of positive responses and interesting initiatives with proposals to develop cooperation in the field of radio broadcasting. For example, this year the TV BRICS International Media Network and ‘Orpheus’ Radio, our flagship partner, launched broadcasting in Brazil. And now we are already in a number of negotiations with radio stations in Zimbabwe and Mozambique,” she added.

On 31 July 2023, Brazilian radio station Toda Palavra (Rio de Janeiro) premiered the Sounds of Russia programme, featuring music by Russian composers performed by the Orpheus Radio Symphony Orchestra. With the assistance of TV BRICS, Brazilian listeners are getting acquainted with Russian musical culture and the performing skills of Russian artists.

Luiz Erthal, editor-in-chief of radio Toda Palavra, welcomed the participants of the international festival ‘Radio Without Borders’.

“I would like to welcome the participants of the international festival ‘Radio Without Borders’ on behalf of the staff of radio Toda Palavra, Niteroi City, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. Our region is known all over the world, primarily for carnivals and the “sambo” dance. However, we have many fans of concert classical music, particularly Russian music. For this audience we created the programme “Sounds of Russia”. This is the first programme on Brazilian radio dedicated to Russian classical concert music. This project was made possible thanks to the cooperation with TV BRICS and its partner in Russia, ‘Orpheus’ Radio. Now we will be able to introduce the Brazilian audience to the works of wonderful Russian composers, many of whom are known all over the world,” he said.

Daria Ivankova noted that it’s very important for TV BRICS to promote Russian culture and music in the media space of the BRICS and BRICS+ countries, Latin America and Africa.

Irina Gerasimova, Director General, Artistic Director of the Russian State Musical TV and Radio Centre Orpheus, of which ‘Orpheus’ Radio is a part.

She said, “I would like to thank TV BRICS for their cooperation and for the wonderful promotion of our channel in such a marvellous country – Brazil, whose music is also heard on our airwaves. I would be happy if the Sounds of Russia programme was presented not only in Brazil, but also in many other countries with which TV BRICS cooperates.”

The purpose of the ‘Radio Without Borders’ festival is to celebrate the professional achievements of leading radio companies in Russia and countries near and far abroad, to help radio station teams improve their skills, and to create opportunities for the exchange of experience between domestic and foreign editorial offices.
