THE local music industry continues to unveil new voices in various genres and one such artiste is Afro-jazz musician Thrive Maramba who launched his debut album “Machena” at the weekend.
The 31-year-old talented guitarist and vocalist who recorded his first song in 2020, is ecstatic about the release of his debut album, a feat which was not easy for him to achieve.
Maramba said, “My musical journey started a long time ago when I was still in school. It started as a hobby before I ventured into it professionally in 2015. I recorded my first song in 2020 and I released it on YouTube. Since then, I have been performing at various events and my eureka moment came when I performed at a church gathering. That’s when I was connected to a lot of people who have contributed to my musical journey. I want to term my music ‘Zim Sound’. It comprises afro-jazz and afro-fusion.”
The rising musician has also collaborated with renowned female guitarist and vocalist Tariro neGitare on the track ‘Munozvikwanisa’.
“Thrive is a very talented artiste and he has challenged me by releasing an album at the early stages of his career. It is not very easy for an artiste to come up with an album especially when one is still in his formative years,” said Tariro.
Maramba, who highlighted that he is biased towards gospel music, explores themes that include faith, hope, and love in his songs.
