VICTORIA Falls-based music ensemble, Kweseka will represent Matabeleland North at the Chibuku Road to Fame national final after winning the provincial finals at the weekend.
Kweseka, an Afro-fusion group from Victoria Falls will join winners from nine other provinces for the national competition where various prizes including a recording contract are up for grabs.
“We are looking forward to winning the national championship and putting Matabeleland North music on the map. We are also looking forward to recording our music and distributing it throughout the country and beyond,” said an artist.
We have talent in Matabeleland North province, some of which is not known outside the province, this opportunity takes this talent out of this province. We are also learning how others do it,” said another artist.
The second and third prizes went to Shantani and Walk of Life.
Meanwhile, the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe is convinced the event is an opportunity to promote cultural tourism.
“Events of this nature increase the consumption of artistic products in Zimbabwe and beyond, giving the people an opportunity to enjoy and sample different types of music. We had afro-pop, afro-fusion, afro-jazz, and others. This event also contributes significantly to the economy of this community through cultural tourism. Everyone benefitted somehow, lodges, vendors fuel dealers,” said National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, director, Dr Nicholas Moyo.
The arts sector is a source of livelihood for thousands of Zimbabweans across the country.
