Various aspects of Indonesian culture were on display at the Indonesian cultural show held at the country’s embassy in Harare this Saturday.
The event which was highly attended by the Indonesian community clad in their attire, was also graced by people from other countries and cultures.
Guests had a feel of Indonesian way of life through different Indonesian cultural aspects which include cuisine, instruments, dance and music.
Not to be outdone is one of their national fabrics, troso, which was one of the major attractions.
The brainchild of the Indonesian Ambassador to Zimbabwe’s wife Hanna Sastrawan, the event which is meant to unify people from various cultures, was also part of a fundraising initiative for a local old people’s home.
“Art has the power to unite. Art is the voice which is understood by everyone despite language differences. This event, therefore, is meant to celebrate Indonesian diverse cultures and unify people from different cultures. The proceeds from this event will be given to SODA, a local old people’s home,” Madame Sastrawan said.
Representing the Society of Destitute and Aged, Ms Emilia Mukaratirwa was grateful for the gesture.
Noted Ms Mukaratirwa, “We are grateful to the Indonesian Embassy for this noble initiative. The embassy has been our friend for a long time now and as SODA and we are very grateful.”
Proceeds from the cultural show will be channelled to the Society of Destitutes and Aged, a local home for the elderly.
