Farmers start receiving outstanding US dollar wheat payments

Story by ZBC Reporter

WHEAT farmers have commended the government for honouring its pledge to pay them the outstanding United States Dollar component by the end of this month.

Outstanding United States Dollar
component for delivered wheat has already started reflecting in farmer’s accounts, with Goromonzi commercial farmer Andrew Pascoe expressing gratitude to the government for honouring its pledge while speaking at a livestock field day.

“My funds have just reflected in the account so I thank the government for honouring its pledge,” he said.

The Government says all the wheat payments arrears will be cleared by the end of this month.

“I urge farmers to be patient as we clear outstanding foreign currency payments,” said the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Dr John Basera.

The Government is vigorously supporting agriculture value chains to ensure the country achieves national food self-sufficiency.
