HIGHLANDERS’ preparations for Sunday’s Battle of Zimbabwe against Dynamos have reportedly been disrupted after players staged a sit-in over unpaid salaries and winning bonuses.
The development comes just days before one of the biggest fixtures on the domestic football calendar, shifting attention away from on-field preparations as Bosso grapple with growing off-field challenges.
Players are reportedly demanding payment of two months’ outstanding salaries and winning bonuses dating back to the club’s victory over Hardrock.
The situation has placed additional pressure on the technical team, which is now tasked with managing a labour dispute while preparing for the high-profile derby.
Reports also indicate that the club has faced difficulties meeting some operational commitments, including transport and player welfare obligations.
Despite the challenges, Highlanders have continued to deliver positive results on the pitch, underlining the resilience of the squad amid ongoing uncertainty.
Coach Benjani Mwaruwari and his technical team now face the challenge of keeping players focused ahead of a fixture that carries major significance for both supporters and the club.
The recent departure of performance analyst Culvin Mavhunga has further fuelled concerns about stability within the club’s structures at a crucial stage of the season.
With Sunday’s derby drawing closer, attention is expected to intensify on the club’s leadership and board as supporters await a resolution to a dispute that threatens to overshadow one of Zimbabwean football’s marquee occasions.
Highlanders will, however, take confidence from their recent dominance over Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium as they prepare for the latest chapter of the country’s biggest football rivalry.
