THE Zvishavane Town Council is headed for a major showdown with residents in the wake of revelations that they intend to dispose council offices without an alternative to operate from.

The local authority, which has set in motion plans to dispose council offices located at corner Goddard and Robert Mugabe way, is also set to part with land earmarked for recreational facilities in the town.

However, Former Zvishavane councillors, who served in the local authority when it was still the Amalgamated Rural District Council incorporating Runde, Mberengwa and Insiza districts have objected to the move saying it is anti-development.

“Zvirikuitwa necouncil hatitenderani nazvo kana vanga vafunga kutengesa dai vatanga vavaka.pakatengwa vachashandira kupi.vanozorenteserwa ipapo. Izvi zvitori anti-development hauputse musha usina pamwe paunonogara.resolution yakadai hatiyitambiri.town house inofanira kuva mutown. Vadii varenovator ipapo kuita a tall building?” they said.

The local authority’s Chairperson Khulekani Ndlovu defended the move, saying they are planning to construct a civic centre along Gweru Road for the town to be accorded municipality status.

“We are not selling the offices to get money, we want an investor who will build us a Civic Centre along Gweru road as we move to get municipality status,” he said.

Residents are, however, set to engage relevant authorities to block the move.
