ZRP concerned with increasing cases of rape of minors

The Zimbabwe Republic Police-(ZRP) has expressed concern with the increasing number of rape cases where minors are being raped by close relatives such as uncles and grandfathers.
In a statement, the ZRP National spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said they have recorded cases where a four-year-old was raped on several occasions by her twenty-five-year-old uncle in Mutoko while in Featherstone an eleven-year-old grand-daughter was raped by her sixty-two-year-old grandfather.
Assistant commissioner Nyathi therefore urges members of the public not to leave children in the custody of males, irrespective of the relationship that exists.
He added that minors should be monitored regularly to detect cases of abuse early.
