The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) says it is gravely concerned and alive to the effects of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
In a statement, Zimbabwe Olympic Committee President Admire Msenda said this was an unprecedented occurrence and ZOC stands in solidarity with all affected by the crisis.
‘Covid-19 has affected every structure of our social fibre and sport has not been spared. ZOC upholds the position iterated under the State of Disaster and stands guided by the directives of the Ministry of Health and Child Care. ZOC, as an affiliate of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), also stands guided by the position taken by the IOC, specifically in following guidelines outlined by health experts,’ he said.
‘ZOC is committed to act as a responsible organisation and will take the necessary steps to safeguard its communities. In this context measures such as the postponement of scheduled workshops, activities, training and meetings, will be effected forthwith and up to the end of April 2020. As guided by national positions, ZOC will continue to monitor the situation and stakeholders will be updated accordingly,’ said Masenda.
The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee also urged all its stakeholders to support the precautionary measures recommended by the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) as well as the Ministry of
