ZIMRA to roll out systems upgrade

By ZBC Reporter
THE Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) is set to roll out a massive system upgrade to enhance revenue collection in line with the government’s economic blueprint, the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP).
Inclusive growth and macro-economic stability are TSP’s major targets. These deliverables are highly dependent on ZIMRA’s operational efficiency, hence the proposed upgrade of ICT systems for the revenue collector is expected to contribute to the country’s ease of doing business index.
Economic analyst Titus Mukove believes this will further enhance the country’s growth prospects.
“Any country’s macroeconomic stability is a function of their taxman being able to efficiently collect revenues, so ZIMRA’s mooted initiative is a masterstroke,” he said.
Another analyst Batanai Matsika concurred saying improving tax and customs processes significantly contribute to the ease of doing business and social development.
“The programme is critical especially to the Zimbabwean context, which is seeking to grow the economy,” he said.
The envisaged initiative will enhance the movement of goods, capital and people to facilitate productivity, which is in line with the aspirations of the 2020 national budget.
