PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa says it is God’s Devine intervention that makes the country’s future bright and filled with hope despite a number of calamities which range from illegal sanction to consecutive droughts.
He said this in his speech at the special national day of thanksgiving at State House which was attended by several church leaders.

“Today, we consecrate ourselves and give thanks to the Almighty God, in unity and with one accord, for the blessings, help and favour which he has bestowed upon our nation. Zimbabwe is a God-fearing nation and our faith and trust in him is our confidence and strength. Indeed, in Him we live, move and have our being. We are his children; He is Jehova our God.

“Through his Devine intervention, we continue to witness the country’s fortunes take an irrefutable positive and promising turn for the better. Although we mourn every life lost due to the covid-19 pandemic, we are thankful for God’s continued mercy, grace, protection and preservation. His manifold blessings over our country are evident all around us.

“These include an atmosphere of peace, unity and harmony among the people; macro-economic stability and noticeable results in our efforts to rebuild, modernise and industrialise all sectors of our economy. Meanwhile, our children are back at school. The future of our country is indeed bright and filled with hope that will never fade away as we stand and trust in the promises of God,” he said.

President Mnangagwa said a number of initiatives by government coupled with above-normal rainfall will see the nation registering a bumper harvest

“The above-normal rainfall, coupled with people-centred agricultural programmes, such as the command agriculture programme and the presidential climate proofed Pfumvudza/Intwasa programme, should see us getting a bumper harvest.

“The increased production and productivity, ingenuity and hard work among our people, in spite of the limitations brought about by the covid-190 pandemic, is commendable. The reforms my government began, are taking root, public institutions are becoming stronger, accountable and more transparent; while the culture of hard work, honesty, integrity and accountability is being entrenched across all spheres of life. The value of our currency has been restored and remains stable, while the purchasing power has been increased to the benefit of ordinary people,” he said.

President reminded the nation to honour God for the wisdom, help and mercy which he has bestowed on this country in the face of a number of calamities such as the effects of illegal sanctions, consecutive droughts and cyclones, closely followed by COVID-19 pandemic.

“As a nation, we have been able to craft and adopt robust national COVID-19 prevention and intervention programmes. Added to this, the Lord blessed our efforts and we found favour with friends of our country. These donated generously to us to mitigate the impact of the pandemic. Most recently, some of them like the People’s Republic of China, the Russian Federation, Republic of India and United Kingdom have and will avail donations of COVID-19 vaccines to our country.

“We remain grateful to God for the successes being registered under various national infrastructure development programmes. The current modernisation, construction and rehabilitation of roads and dams as well as irrigation, water and sanitation projects,” he added.
