Zimbabwean Tafadzwa Chikoto elected mayor of Britain’s Corby town

The British town of Corby has elected a Zimbabwean, Councillor Tafadzwa Chikoto, as its first black Mayor.

Councillor Chikoto, who has lived in Corby for the past 17 years, made history after being elected the first-ever black mayor of the British town.

Last year, Chikoto, affectionately known as Taffy, also became the town’s first-ever black Deputy Mayor.

Councillor Chikoto, a Labour Party Mayor, was inaugurated at a ceremony at the Corby Cube in England.

In his inauguration speech, Councillor Chikoto pledged to prioritise youth empowerment and development of the town to the satisfaction of its residents.

Despite being in foreign lands, Zimbabweans have always proved their mettle in various fields, flying the country’s flag high and scaling dizzy heights in the process.
