Zimbabwe receives more than 500 thousand doses of the Sinopharm vaccine

Zimbabwe’s vaccination drive continues on a positive trajectory, with the country taking delivery of more than 500 thousand doses of the Sinopharm vaccine this Thursday.

The arrival of an additional 516 thousand 800 doses is set to further boost the country’s vaccination drive, as the Zimbabwe targets herd immunity by December this year.

“We have received 500 000 doses today with 500 000 more expected tomorrow, and another 500 thousand on the 21st to bring the total to 1,5 million. We are also expecting 1 million Sinovac doses this coming Tuesday,” he said.

Meanwhile, Serbia’s Foreign Minister Honourable Nikolai Selakovic, who arrived in the country this Thursday evening, has signed a Covid-19 vaccination donation agreement with his Zimbabwean counterpart, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Ambassador Fredrick Shava.

The agreement is expected augment Zimbabwe’s fight against covid-19 while also bolstering existing relations between the two countries.

The arrival of the 1.5 million doses of Sinopharm and one million Sinovac doses by the 24th of this month will bring the total doses received so far to eight million.

Two million 193 thousand 346 people have so far received the first dose, while one million 348 thousand 374 people have been fully vaccinated.
