The Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA) which were last held in 2015 are back this January with a new face.
The awards which have been rebranded to PPC Zimbabwe Music Awards are slated for the 25th of this month after a 4-year sabbatical.PPC Zimbabwe partnered with Zima late last year.
Running under the theme: Business Unusual, the awards will see the introduction of new categories which include the Retro Icon Award which is meant to recognize yesteryear artists who contributed to the local music industry before the introduction of ZIMA.
Other new categories are the RnB and Soul Award, and the Tshibilika Award which recognizes artists from marginalized Kalanga communities among others.
“This year’s edition will be exciting since we have introduced new categories like the Retro Icon, the Tshibilika Award, and other awards that recognize technical teams like videographers,” said ZIMA Chief Executive Officer, Reason Sibanda.
The Zimbabwe Music Awards were introduced in 2003 to recognise artists who distinguish themselves in various musical genres and this year’s edition will be held at Newlands Country Club in Harare.
