South Africa A has won the One Day series against Zimbabwe XI (ELEVEN) after beating the hosts by 36 runs in the third and final match at Harare Sports Club.
After winning the first One Day Match, Zimbabwe XI lost momentum, allowing the visiting South Africa A team to claw back and win the series 2-1.
With the first two matches having been cut short due to the rains, the sporting Gods allowed the decider to be settled on the pitch and this time around, the more fancied visitors flexed their muscles.
South Africa A batted first and a near century opening stand between Ryan Rickleton and Tony de Zorzi set the tone for the innings with de Zorzi leading the way with 78, while his aggressive patner was dismissed for 46 runs.
Khaya Zondo came in and joined in the fun contributing 60 before he was bowled by Tendai Chatara, while all-rounder Andile Pehlukwayo was not out for 29 as the visitors posted a competitive 289 for 9 in their innings.Spinner, Wellington Masakadza was the most successful of the Zimbabwean bowlers grabbing four wickets while rookie Tanaka Chivanga grabbed three wickets.
As has become the norm, Zimbabwe did not have the best of starts after losing Takudzwa Kaitano in the first over and dropped a further four wickets before the score reached 100.
Richmond Mutumbami and Kevin Kasuza tried went on a rescue mission but Kasuza was dismissed for 6 before Mutumbami followed two runs later. Bowlers Donald Tiripano and Wellington Masakadza had a descent
