Zimbabwean footballers based in South Africa continue to make headlines in the ABSA Premier Soccer League with each passing week, a clear testimony that the country has vast talent.
The latest being Evans Rusike who was on target this weekend while Elvis Chipezeze and Gabriel Nyoni were in top form.
Evans Rusike steered SuperSport United to a convincing 2-0 victory away to AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium when he opened the scoring in the 24th minute, leaving the Kaitano Tembo-coached side third on the log standings with 31 points from 18 matches.
After the match, Tembo was pleased with his players’ attitude on the field of play.
“Well we keep pushing for results and we are happy with what we got today. Three points in the bag are always good for us and we have to keep working hard and crave for more results as we move forward in the campaign,” said Tembo.
Elsewhere, Norman Mapeza continued to win the hearts of many in the ABSA Premiership after his side Chippa United produced yet another convincing performance in their 0-0 stalemate with Maritzburg United on Saturday.
“I am happy with the boys’ performance. Look I always say it’s not easy getting results the teams is closer to us on the table so we are almost fighting the same battle so it was a tough match but um glad we managed a point, well done to the guys,” said Mapeza.
Mapeza has guided the once relegation-bound Chippa United to a comfortable 10th position since taking over the reigns at the club in October last year.
The Chilli Boys are on the rise and their results are an indication that the Zimbabwean gaffer is out on a mission.
It was also a good weekend for former CAPS United winger Gabriel Nyoni and national team Goalkeeper, Elvis Chipezeze who were named man of the match in their respective sides’ encounters.
