Zimbabwean Hockey official Sarah Bennett is scaling new heights after being appointed to officiate in the gold medal match between Australia and Belgium at the ongoing Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan this Wednesday.

The former national hockey team Goalkeeper’s stock continues to rise after officiating in finals of the African games and receiving a Diploma of Merit from the Federation of International Hockey (FIH) in May.

I am very happy, I never though this would happen especially after last year with the pandemic but just to officiate at the Olympics in itself is a major achievement and now the final ….wow it’s everything. Its also good that we also have a lot of other officials raising the Zimbabwe flag high and we should continue learning and excelling, she said.

Bennett who will be the Time Judge in the gold medal match between Australia and Belgium is not only a technical official but she is also the secretary General for the Hockey Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) and seats in the continental technical Committee.

Apart from Bennett, the country is also represented at the World’s sporting event by Chipo Zumburani the Badminton Association president who is part of the VIP hospitality team, Dave Ellis and Sean Bruss who are officiating in Triathlon and Equestrian.
