THE Zimbabwe senior women hockey team secured their first win at the Africa Cup of Nations in Accra, Ghana after beating Uganda 5-nil this Tuesday.
Having started their Africa Cup of Nations campaign on a slow note losing 3-nil to South Africa this Monday, Zimbabwe made amends in their second match as they trounced Uganda 5-nil this Tuesday morning.
Zimbabwe were dominant from the start as Tino Elijah hit the opener in the twenty-eighth minute before Natalie Teblanche got the second two minutes later.
Their opponents, Uganda had the same target after losing to Namibia on Monday, but totally collapsed when Nicole Grant grabbed a third for Zimbabwe.
In the 52nd minute, Natalie Teblanche ensured Zimbabwe were 4-nil up with her second of the day, while Lilian Pope sealed the victory in the 60th minute.
Zimbabwe will lock horns with Namibia in their final group game in pool A on Thursday.
