All the four Zimbabwean men’s teams participating at the ongoing Confederation of African Volleyball Zone Six club championships in Maputo, Mozambique are through to the quarter finals, with unbeaten UZ Wolves set to face local rivals, Harare City.
Defending champions, UZ Wolves extended their unbeaten run after dispatching Nkwazi of Zambia 3-nil in their final pool B match this Wednesday to set up an all Zimbabwean quarter-final against Harare City.
The team, which also posted 3-1 wins over Unezambezi of Mozambique and local rivals, Highlanders on the same day to take their points tally to 12, is confident of defending the title.
UZ Wolves coach Jonathan Gava said: “So far we are enjoying our unbeaten run at the competition. We are on a quest to defend the championship so far so good. We might not be the favourites to win but we can surely clinch the title as good as were last year, so we hope we’ll do it although it’s not going to be easy. It’s always difficult winning titles. So far we haven’t had any challenges the players are happy so we hope we go hunting again and bring the trophy home.”
In other quarter final matches, Zimbabwean side NABA will play Unezambezi of Mozambique, while Highlanders clash with Academics de Maputo, also from Mozambique.
In the women’s category, UZ Wolves face Prison Leopards from Zambia and Harare City have a date with Tshwane University from South Africa in their 5th round robin game.
UZ Wolves are in fourth place with nine points, while Harare City are struggling with a single point and last in the women’s pool.
The table is led by Academics de Maputo from Mozambique who have 15 points and look set to clinch the championship.
