Zim celebrates Defence Forces Day

THE Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs, Honourable Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri says the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) is committed to safeguarding peace and tranquillity in the country.

As Zimbabweans thronged the National Sports Stadium to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Day, it was time to reflect on the role of the uniformed forces in ensuring peace and security in the country.

Honourable Muchinguri-Kashiri said the defence forces will remain committed in not only safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity, but also partaking in community development programmes.

“The defence forces will remain resolute in defending the country’s sovereignty. ZDF is committed to serve the nation,” she said.

The Minister added that the sacrifices by the uniformed forces in fostering unity and tranquillity in the country should forever be cherished.

“We welcome you to the 42nd anniversary celebration of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Day. We cherish the sacrifices by members of the ZDF in ensuring peace and tranquillity,” she said.

The President and Commander in Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa took the opportunity to confer a commendation medal to Major Winnet Zharare for her outstanding achievement during a United Nations Mission.
