The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA), in partnership with the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe, has called for efficient use of energy by consumers as well as ensuring access to affordable and environmentally sustainable energy by licensees.
The two organisations, in a bid to equip residents and energy suppliers with necessary knowledge on energy sufficiency, held an outreach meeting in Chiredzi this Friday.
“As ZERA, we are mandated with consumer protection so we have decided to increase our consumer education and awareness programmes. We advise consumers on efficient use of energy as well as ensuring access to affordable energy,” said ZERA Consumer Services Manager, Engineer Nobert Matarudze.
Chiredzi residents raised concern over the need for a quick response in cases of vandalism or theft of the utility or energy service provider’s property.
Bernard Dachi of the United Chiredzi Residents and Ratepayers Association said faults were taking too long to be attended to.
The outreach programme targets consumers mainly in medium and high density areas as well as small business communities in all provinces.
