THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has received a thumbs up for holding the just ended by-elections in an organised, free and fair manner.

The Civic Society and Churches Joint Forum (CSCJM), which for the first time was accredited to observe the just ended elections, has released its assessment report on the past by elections.

CSCJF National Coordinator, Abigale Mupambi said the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) deserves a thumbs up for the way it organised last week’s by-elections.

“We were on the ground before, during and after the elections. The manner in which ZEC conducted the process was professional and fair. Save for a few hiccups, the whole process where ZEC displayed the voter rolls for inspection demonstrates high level of professionalism,” she said.

The CSCJF also noted some actions by political parties, which was uncalled for.

“We observed that some political parties attempted to intimidate ZEC and the police during the process, this is uncalled for. We urge them to abide and respect ZEC and the police which provide the much need security during the process,” she added.

The organisation deployed over 120 observers countrywide.

Observers also said the positive assessment report on ZEC by the local election watchdog, leaves an egg on the face of triple C leadership that went on the rampage to insult the electoral board but surprisingly went silent after the results were announced.
