The ruling Zanu PF party is engaging government and other stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the ongoing demolitions of houses alleged to have been built illegally in urban and peri urban centres.
A meeting held this Monday at the Zanu PF Headquarters in Harare saw the ruling party highlighting that human dignity is key in finding a lasting solution to the ongoing demolitions, particularly in Melfort area of Goromonzi.
The party has been very concerned about inhumane ongoing demolitions of houses alleged to be illegal. These include demolitions in Melfort Mashonaland East. The party stands supportive to the regularisation programme of residential stands, said the party’s Secretary for Administration Cde Obert Mpofu.
Last week, residents of Melfort in Mashonaland East province were left stranded after their houses were demolished by the Goromonzi Rural District Council, following a court order which empowered the local authority to demolish structures alleged to have been built illegally in the area.
