ZANU PF forges ahead with five million vote target

THE ruling Zanu PF is set to intensify the cell registration and verification programme in Chiredzi district as the party targets five million votes in the 2023 harmonised elections.

The cell verification and voter registration exercise were high on the agenda at a ZANU PF inter-district meeting held in Chiredzi this Sunday.

Politburo member, Senator Lovemore Matuke was clear on what needs to be done.

“Where we are heading with our party, we need a scientific approach. We have 12 000 cells in Masvingo Province and if we multiply them with 50, it means we have 600 000 people in the party’s structures. If we multiply that 600 000 with other 10 provinces it means we are already at 6 million votes but as a party we have a target of 5 million votes because we want to focus on what we want to achieve therefore these chairmen here should be given their allocation in contribution to 5 million votes,” said Senator Matuke.

ZANU PF Masvingo Provincial Chairperson, Cde Robson Mavenyengwa encouraged party members to play their part in successfully mobilising the five million votes for party and its Presidential candidate in the 2023 harmonised elections Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“We want the electorate to go and register to vote but those without national identity cards are going to be given so that we achieve the five million votes target. We are making that every constituency has enough people,” said Cde Mavenyengwa.

The meeting also provided a platform for officials for the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development to update the local leadership on government’s developmental programmes and efforts being made to stabilise the economy.

“Inflation was now at 837 percent but by December, it came down to 60 percent. At the moment it’s at 72,7 percent, why is it going up, this is one of the main issues that we are trying to resolve,” said Honourable Chiduwa.

The inter-district meeting also received reports from the Women, Youth and War Veterans Leagues.
