Woman in the dock for concealing still birth

A twenty-five-year-old Shurugwi woman has been charged for concealing a still birth after burying the body on her own.

 Twenty-five-year-old Portia Chikwava appeared in court this Wednesday facing allegations of concealing the birth of a child as defined in section 195 of the criminal law codification and reform Act.

It is the state’s case that between the 24th and 28th of last month Chikwava who is from the Musasa area of Shurugwi, had a still birth and buried the body with the intention of concealing the birth.

The matter came to light when a responsible citizen noticed that something was amiss after realising that Chikwava was no longer pregnant.

In another matter, a sixty nine year old man, Sabelo Moyo has been charged with rape after he allegedly forced himself on a four year old minor, who had been left in his custody.

The court heard that the incident occurred on the 6th of this month with the girl’s guardian reporting the matter after noticing bruises on the minor.
