GOVERNMENT has announced the new wheat pre-planting producer price with farmers set to be paid ZWL$193 000 per metric tonne compared to 68 000 dollars last season.
Grain Marketing Board (GMB) Acting Chief Executive Officer, Clemence Guta revealed the new producer prices for ordinary and premium grade wheat in an interview with ZBC News this Friday.
“The GMB is happy to announce the pre-planting producer price for wheat for the 2022 season as follows: ordinary grade wheat is pegged at ZWL 175 741.86 per metric tonne and Premium grade at ZWL 193 316.05 per metric tonne,” said Mr Guta.
With the annual national wheat requirement pegged at about 340 thousand metric tonnes, government has this year roped in all farmers with irrigation facilities to produce wheat under the presidential inputs, CBZ Agro-yield and AFC holdings schemes, while the private sector has been mandated to produce 40 percent of their requirements through contract farming
