A special envoy from the Chairman of the Great lakes region President Denis Sassou Nguesso of Congo-Brazzaville has delivered a special message to President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Harare this Friday afternoon.
The special envoy from Congo-Brazzaville Mr Jean Claude Gakosso handed over the special message to President Mnangagwa at Munhumutapa offices in Harare.
Speaking soon after emerging from a closed-door meeting, the special envoy told journalists that the briefing with President Mnangagwa is in his capacity as chair of the SADC organ on Politics, Defense and Security centred on the boundary dispute between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“We are happy with the warm welcome we got from President Mnangagwa, we discussed the Zambia and DRC boundary dispute and how best we can assist to resolve in the true spirit of African founding principles,” said Mr Gakosso.
Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Retired Lieutenant General Dr Sibusiso Moyo said after receiving the special message from the Great Lakes Chair, President Mnangagwa will consult with SADC leaders on how best to bring the long-standing boundary dispute between Zambia and DRC to an end.
“The president received the special message from Great Lakes Chair and he indicated his willingness and the of SADC to amicably resolve the issue. So he will consult other leaders and come up with a position.”
The Zambia and DRC dispute emanates from a border line which is reported to have been misinterpreted long back.
