The War Veterans League Elective Conference has been deferred to the 9th of September, with the ruling ZANU PF party giving credit to the provincial structures for conducting successful elections ahead of the conference.

This was confirmed by ZANU PF National Political Commissar, Dr Mike Bimha in a media briefing at the party headquarters in Harare this Tuesday.

“The war veterans league conference which was supposed to be held from the 25-27 August 2022, has been postponed and will now be held from Friday 9-10 September 2022. In this regard, the department is now receiving lists of delegates to be accredited and is now also calling upon all the provincial leadership to assist the War veterans in the preparation of their conference,” he said.

The Manicaland War Veterans’ League is chaired by Cde Linda Matathu, Bulawayo is led by Cde Cephas Ncube; Cde Martin Kwainona Ndlovu was elected chairperson for Mashonaland Central province, while Cde Daniel Matengo will lead Mashonaland east province.

Mashonaland West province will be chaired by Cde Happison Muchechetere, Cde Sonny Mguni will lead Matabeleland North province, Cde Alfred Moyo is the chair for Matabeleland South province, while Cde Gibson Mashingaidze was elected chair in Masvingo province, with Midlands’ province being chaired by Cde Amos Mapingire.

Turning to this weekend’s Gokwe-Kabuyuni by-election, Dr Bimha said the revolutionary party is confident of victory after all wings campaigned extensively.

“On the other side, let me say that the Party is in full swing drumming up support for the Gokwe-Kabuyuni by-election, which will be held this coming Saturday, 27 August 2022.”

The Gokwe-Kabuyuni constituency seat fell vacant after the death of Honourable Leonard Chikomba in a road traffic accident in May.
