VICE President Kembo Mohadi has urged communities in Matabeleland South province to consider venturing into waste management based projects to create wealth and employment.
Speaking during a provincial clean up exercise held at Maphisa, Matobo this Friday, Vice President Mohadi said waste management projects can help community members improve their livelihoods and at the same time contribute to the rebuilding of the economy.
He said there are vast opportunities in the recycling industry which communities can take advantage of as part of managing waste in their areas.
Vice President Mohadi also implored the retail sector to play a part in ensuring a clean Zimbabwe by providing litter bins for consumers.
Speaking at the same occasion, the Minister of State for Matabeleland South Province, Abednico Ncube said the clean-up initiative is yielding the desired results as the province has managed to rid its towns and growth points of 7 000 cubic meters of solid waste since the launch of the programme.
The national clean-up is conducted between 8 am and 10 am on the first Friday of every month. It has seen people becoming increasingly aware of the need to keep their environments clean.
