VP Chiwenga mourns Dr Zishiri

Vice President and Health and Child Care Minister, General (Retd) Dr Constantino Chiwenga has sent a message of condolences to the Zishiri family, following the death of Dr Christopher Zishiri.

Dr Zishiri worked in the Ministry of Health and Child Care in various capacities, “but most importantly, he devoted his service in saving lives and ensuring that there is quality health service delivery particularly towards Tuberclosis control in Zimbabwe.”

Vice President Chiwenga said: “The late Medical Practitioner trained as a Medical Doctor before specializing as a Public Health Practioner. He had more than 20 years’ experience in Clinical and Public Health practice in Zimbabwe and the United Kingdom.

“The late Dr Zishiri held several positions in the Ministry before he retired. Among the positions the late held are, Provincial Medical Director of the Midlands Province, Country Director of the International Union Against Tuberclosis and Lung Disease (The Union), National Focal Person for Tobacco control in Zimbabwe.”

He said Dr Zishiri was very instrumental in establishing the Union Zimbabwe Trust in 2020, a local charity organization involved in the fight against tuberculosis and other lung diseases. He was the Executive Director.

“At the time of his death, he was leading a consortium, with three other partners namely Jointed Hands Welfare Organisation, Baines Occupational Health Services and Hospice and Palliative Care Association of Zimbabwe in the fight against tuberculosis.Dr Zishiri (Soko Mukanya). His untimely departure has created a deep chasm in our lives that will be difficult to fill.

“On behalf of my Office, family and of course, my own behalf, I wish to extent my deepest condolences to the Zishiri family children and the entire Zishiri family as well as the Ministry of Health and Child Care for this big loss.

“May the soul of the late Dr Christopher Zishiri rest in eternal peace,” Dr Chiwenga said.
