THE 15th International Military Sports Council (CISM) golf tournament ended in Victoria Falls this Friday with participants impressed by destination Zimbabwe.
The CISM tournament was not just about competition, it was also a chance for military personnel from around the world to build relations.
Zimbabwe made lasting impressions.
“It was incredibly amazing to visit your country, to taste your culture, to breath the serenity of this-places, to feel the warm touch of your kindness and courtesy, to meet new friends and to see again the old ones. We will carry with us, in our hearts, your catching smiles, your cheerful eyes, your kind hospitality, your being so open hearted With the rhythm of your drums in the head, we leave-this place with memories that will last a lifetime. It will be impossible to forget this experience,” said CISM Secretary General from Italy, Navy Captain Roberto Recchia.
The golf tournament lived up to expectations.
“During the tournament, we witnessed a strong competitive spirit amongst individuals and teams, all in the furtherance of CISM’s motto of enhancing friendship amongst individuals and countries through sport. 1 want to applaud the spirit of sportsmanship, comradeship, solidarity and mutual respect that was displayed by the participants,” noted Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Philip Valerio Sibanda.
France scooped gold medals in women individuals and women team categories while Germany walked away with gold medals in both men junior individuals and men team.
The Kingdom of Bahrain won the men junior category.
Don Kues Challenge Cup went to France while the fair play accolade was scooped by Germany.
Kenya will host the 2025 edition of the CISM golf tournament.
The four-day tournament, which is being held on African soil for the third time after Namibia and South Africa, has drawn over 100 golfers from 14 countries from across the globe.
