Victoria Falls Town Clerk Ronnie Dube has appeared in court facing charges of criminal abuse of office involving the allocation of commercial stands without following tender procedures.

Dube who was arrested on Wednesday afternoon appeared before magistrate, Ms Gladmore Mushowe facing charges of contravening Section the Criminal Law Codification Reform Act.

Allegations are that Dube made misrepresentations to the Victoria Falls Ordinary Full Council meeting and intentionally influenced the Council through the Town Clerk’s report to sell stand No. 1782 without following tender procedures.

For allegedly failing to ensure that there was competitive bidding process in the sale of the commercial stand, Dube is being charged with criminal abuse of office.

According to the court papers, there were other companies that had expressed interest in acquiring the same commercial stand.

Dube is, however, challenging his arrest as unlawful.

He was remanded in custody with the matter being rolled over to this Friday.

Dube was suspended on the 28th of last month to pave way for investigations into mismanagement concerns and abuse of office.
