Zimbabwe’s tourism capital, Victoria Falls, is working on strengthening compliance with COVID-19 protocols, riding on the success of the mass vaccination programme which saw the resort city attaining herd immunity.
This come after the resort town ably demonstrated to the entire world that it is among the responsible tourism destinations with the entire adult population vaccinated.
Acting District Medical Officer Dr Fungai Mvura revealed that measures are being put in place to ensure that the resort city maintains its status as a safe destination.
“We are continuing to urge the residents not to be complacent and we are continuing to emphasize on strict adherence to COVID-19 prevention measures. We encourage people to avoid large gathering, to sanitise, wash hands and mask up so that we don’t reverse the gains we have achieved so far,” said Dr Mvura.
Residents of the resort city and tourism players have been reminded to be vigilant and adhere to the stipulated Covid-19 protocols.
Shearwater Adventures Public Relations Manager Clement Mukwasi said, “We are currently the best destination in terms immunisation and in terms of the behavior. We must however continue reminding one another that this is not an event, rather it is a process. It is up to us to embrace the new culture that we have acquired and not fall into the temptation and laxity which other countries have fallen into which have led to lockdowns.”
As the country seeks to continue flattening the curve, other cities around the country have been encouraged to emulate the strict adherence and unity of purpose demonstrated by the Victoria Falls community.
