Five suspects appeared in court this Wednesday in connection with a cash in transit robbery of US$2,5 million and ZWL$40 000 that occurred along the Harare – Chinhoyi Highway last week.
Gerald Rutizira, Kelvin Musakwa, Tendai Zuze, Neverson Mwamuka and Trymore Chapfika are alleged to have connived with ZB Bank employees, Fanuel Musakwa and Shadreck Njowa to stage the heist at the Gwebi bridge laybye.
Musakwa, who was in the transit vehicle when the alleged robbery occurred, is already in custody, while Njowa is still at large.
Musakwa and the five accused persons, who were allegedly armed with pistols and rifles, reportedly arranged three gate-away vehicles for the suspects.
The state presented that while in transit, Musakwa would constantly update his accomplices of his whereabouts before the heist.
