The country has set a target to vaccinate at least one million people against COVID-19 in the next two weeks, amid a continued positive response to the inoculation drive.

This comes after the country received a further 25 thousand consignment of the Sputnik V vaccine from Russia this Wednesday.

The arrival of 25 thousand more jabs of the Sputnik V vaccine this Wednesday is set to boost the national fight against the pandemic which has battered the entire global community.

Receiving the vaccines from Russia through Alrosa Zimbabwe, the Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care Dr John Mangwiro encouraged all citizens to get vaccinated and seek medical attention early.

Statistics on the daily Covid-19 report released by the Ministry of Health and Child Care as of this Tuesday indicate that more than 29 thousand people have received their first dose since the arrival of the two million vaccines last week, while more than 10 thousand people have received their second doses at various centres across the country.

Despite the high death rate, the situation on the ground shows that there has been an increase in the uptake of Covid-19 vaccines, with President Mnangagwa outlining government’s target of inoculating at least one million people during the extended lockdown.

More than 900 thousand people have so far been vaccinated with the first dose, while over 600 thousand have been fully vaccinated.

Zimbabwe has recorded 73 271 positive cases of Covid-19 and 2 274 deaths since the first positive case was recorded in March last year.
