Regional climate stakeholders converging in Victoria Falls have underscored the need for up to date weather forecasts to mitigate the effects of climate change.
As weather patterns across the globe becoming more and more adverse due to climate change, emphasis has been placed on providing farmers, planners, governments and other key sectors with accurate forecasts for planning purposes.
A Climate Forecasting Regional Indaba underway in the resort city of Victoria Falls is looking at coming up with mitigation strategies to stay ahead by providing up to date information.
“For effective planning and scheduling of agricultural production, timeous, accurate and dependable forecasts are needed,” the Permanent Secretary of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Munesu Munodawafa said.
With Africa seeking to strengthen its climate change mitigation strategies, the agreement is that this can only be achieved by providing critical information for decision-making.
