THE Zimbabwe under-21 national handball team is eyeing glory in the upcoming World Youth and Junior qualifiers which will be held in the country in April this year.
After the news broke out that Zimbabwe was given the right to host the International Handball Federation (IHF) World Youth and Junior qualifiers from the 24th to the 30th of April this year, the country’s Under 21 side has since shifted focus to ensuring they reward their fans with a trophy at the competition.
With Team Zimbabwe’s preparations already in motion after holding several periodic camps as the federation works towards its vision 2024, the tournament has come at an opportune time for the technical team to fine tune its squad.
“We are on course towards hosting this gruelling tournament, we are so happy and this could not have come at a better time as the boys are already geared since we have been holding periodic camps from time to time,” said Zimbabwe under 21 handball team coach, Clemence Leonard.
“Hosting the IHF sanctioned challenge is sweet music to us and the event has now become our priority, the ultimate goal is to win and give confidence to our followers that we can achieve greater things,” said Leonard
A 19-member squad conducted its first training session ahead of the crunch qualifiers at Chitungwiza’s Aquatic Complex this Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is determined to leave an indelible mark in the annals of handball history after the country was recently admitted into the Commonwealth handball playing nations.
