THE solar-powered Chisadza Piped Water Scheme has improved livelihoods in Lower Gweru through the provision of clean and safe water to more than 6 000 households in the area.

The scheme, which was made possible through devolution funds, also serves the nearby primary and secondary schools as well as the local clinic.

“As you can see, this is a very dry area. We used to face some serious water challenges here, but it’s now a thing of the past,” said one of the beneficiaries.

Another added, “We used to have problems in accessing clean water. We would walk for more than 15 kilometres to get access to clean water. This project has indeed brought us joy and relief. We can now safely say we have the facilities they have in towns.”

“This project is testimony that the government’s vision of 2030 is indeed attainable. Things are shaping up. We will get there as the President is proving time and again that he is for the people,” said a beneficiary.

The government is committed to ensuring essential services are brought to people’s doorsteps in line with the inclusive development agenda.

Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube said, “Ladies and Gentlemen, access to clean water and sanitation facilities remains a top Government priority as it contributes to the general health and well-being of the people. A healthy population contributes significantly to production and productivity.”

The Second Republic has been on a massive development drive which has seen communities being transformed through key infrastructure projects such as roads, schools and clinics.
