UZUMBA MARAMBA PFUNGWE district continues to make huge strides in maternal health, with the area maintaining a rate of 99% in live births for three consecutive years.
With all hands on deck, from village health workers to medical doctors, the 21 clinics in Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe and the district hospital have managed to curb maternal deaths, with a 99% live birth rate recorded over the past three years.
“We have really done well over the past months. This year we unfortunately lost one mother. By the time she arrived at the hospital it was already too late and she had lost a lot of blood and developed many complications. As a team we always work hard to ensure that both mother and child are fine,” said Dr Gladman Mubonani – District Medical Officer- Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe
Health workers have also roped in village heads to ensure pregnancies are recorded early to avoid complications
“It’s my duty to ensure that the people in my village are healthy so I am always encouraging mothers to register their pregnancies,” said one Village head.
Out of a total of 2147 deliveries between January and August this year, the hospital recorded one maternal death, while another maternal death was recorded during the same period last year from 1959 deliveries.
