Two dead, 16 injured in Mash Central road accidents

TWO people died while 16 others were injured in three separate road traffic accidents in Mashonaland Central Province on Wednesday.

Zimbabwe Republic Police Mashonaland Central Spokesperson, Inspector Milton Mundembe said the first incident occurred at around 2 pm. along the Nzvimbo-Shopo road in Chiweshe, when Sydney Matope aged 38, who was driving a silver Honda Fit encroached into the opposite lane and collided with a Nissan UD truck.

Matope sustained head injuries and died on the spot after his vehicle was dragged for about 15 metres. His body was taken to Concession Hospital for a post mortem.

Another fatal accident occurred along the Bindura-Kwenda road at around 6 pm. when Takunda Kwenda aged 22, who was driving a Toyota Nadia ran over a pedestrian identified as 37-year-old Passmore Mulamba at Maganyani Business Centre.

Mulamba died on the spot after sustaining head injuries.

16 other people were injured in the third road accident involving three vehicles which occurred at around 3 p.m at Avonda farm along the Bindura-Harare road, when Soul Muchemwa who was driving a Toyota Probox towards Bindura encroached into the opposite lane and side swiped a Zupco bus which was going in the opposite direction.

Muchemwa was unfortunately hit by a Toyota Landcruiser after negotiating his way back to his lane before the two vehicles veered off the road.

The Zupco bus which had 65 passengers on board swerved off the road and landed in a ditch.

Passengers who were on board and the driver sustained minor injuries.

Muchemwa lost his right hand in the accident while the other driver escaped unhurt.
