A Buhera teenager who made headlines in 2020 after callously killing three elderly people whom he accused of being responsible for his parents’ death was sentenced to three life sentences by Mutare High Court Judge, Justice Isaac Muzenda.

Energy Chipinda, who was 18 years old when he committed the heinous crime, was convicted of the murder of the three, whom he accused of killing his parents.

Despite being a first and youthful offender the judge noted that the murders were with intent, as the killings were executed with precision.

He also noted that Chipinda, who is now 20 years old, did not show any remorse during his trial, indicating that he was not sorry for ending the lives of the three victims.

Chipinda was given a life sentence for each murder.

Facts are that Chipinda broke the kitchen door where 80-year-old Erina Hlabati, Tafa Chitsanza (86) and Milia Chinotimba (74) were sleeping and attacked them using a burning log.

He went on to pound their heads with a stone before setting the house ablaze.

Chipinda accused the victims of killing his parents who died over sixteen years ago.

The three died instantly.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old Nyaradzo Mungate has appeared before a Harare magistrate facing attempted murder charges after she allegedly assaulted her step daughter using a chain and cooking stick.

It is alleged that Mungate ordered the girl to do house hold chores, but felt the nine-year-old was taking too long to finish and ended up assaulting her as punishment for being lazy.

Concerned neighbors reported the abuse to the police who carries out investigations and arrested the accused person.

The girl was medically examined and was found with scars and wounds all over her body.

She was remanded in custody to the 28th of this month.
