THE President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa says technology is the lifeblood of businesses and human interactions thus government will continue to support ICTS so as to accelerate modernisation and reduce red tape which is an impediment to business operations.
He was speaking during the Commissioning of The National Data Centre in Harare this Wednesday morning.
The President also said the achievement of Vision 2030 is hinged largely on the digitalisation of the economy hence the commissioning of the centre is a step in the right direction.
The reach and impact of the centre will contribute immensely to the achievement of Vision 2030 and the implementation of NDS1, he said.
He also spoke on Education Model 5.0 which has seen the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education in the Second Republic introduce innovation hubs within the country’s universities.
Together with the ongoing outputs, this thrust will accelerate our modernisation and industrialisation thrust, hence we introduced innovation hubs within our tertiary institutions as a show of commitment to the modernisation agenda, he noted.
The National Data Centre Project was initiated by the Office of The President and Cabinet in 2014 as part of the wider Modernisation of the Public Sector Agenda.
In recognition of the fact that data drives and fuels innovation and economic development across the public and private sectors, the data centre is expected to centralise government’s ICT operations and coordinate the modernisation of government business departments among other key issues.
